Tia, our Gala Queen. Wow! The weather was cracking the flags as we all assembled at the Church Centre to be inspected for the fancy dress. The theme was “ Countries of the World Cup”. Heidi went as “Australia” and came third. Sally made a Czech flag and went as a 'supporter'. The Nelson Brass Band set off at 1.30pm prompt to lead the procession on a round trip up the Main Street, along New Inn Fold, Meadow Lane, Skipton Road and back to the New Inn. All of a 10-minute slow stroll. A welcome beer/soft drink stop before carrying on up Crosshills Road and down to the playing fields. Heidi collects her prize! Winners of the fancy dress were taken to the Bowling Green behind the “media tower” for photos and to collect their winnings. We were then treated to some wonderful country dancing from Cononley Primary School. Country dancing. The children’s sports events followed, sack races, three legged races and egg & spoon races, the eggs looked rather like tennis balls! The 400m (or 2 laps round the football pitch) was prior to the climax of the fell race (completed in approx 9 mins by a very fit looking young man). Sally set off with great enthusiasm and optimism despite the handicap of wearing flip-flops which she had evidently overlooked!! There was something for everybody, a lovely day which we thoroughly enjoyed. Please visit our photo galleries to see the rest of our photographs.
