Last year we missed this trip, as Sally would have been too young to take part. This year we all booked in, but hadn't considered that Martin can see very little without spectacles, and despite lenses in the mask, could still not see more than six inches clearly. Consequently he enjoyed a very pleasant boat trip for the day!

Before lunch the three girls went for the three metre dive, (not deep, but feels it when you're down there!). We were kitted out with flippers - apparently called 'fins' (Flipper was a dolphin - now found in sushi), wetsuits, lead weight belts, air tanks and a sucky breathy thing (known as a regulator in the trade). the basic sign languages were taught - Sue was quick to grasp 'problem' and 'up' just in case! We were 'down' for about 20 minutes, and played noughts and crosses on the seabed and came face to face with a few fish.

Lunch was a cheese sarnie and a fabulous juicy peach, followed all too soon by a five metre dive. This was more scary as there was a lot of water 'up there'. We were shown two eels at least 6" in diameter and more than three feet long, really vibrant colours and BIG teeth. The highlight was seeing 'Olly' the octopus, who came out of his hidey-hole, enticed by a piece of rotten fish (or was it a cheese sandwich?). We also fed the fish with bread which was conveniently situated in a plastic bag nearby. What an experience that was - it was like being an intruder in an aquarium.
Our trip was with the European Diving Centre, based in Fethiye.
